Part III

“Damn, that was good.” Trey kicked his shoes off and leaned his back against Justin’s shoulder, stretching his legs out on the sofa. They hadn’t eaten a lot, but they had eaten more than I was sure either had in some time.

“You guys need to take the rest home,” Garrett said as he headed down the hall, “I’ll get fat if I eat all that.” Justin returned a noncommittal hum. They both looked done for, and I suppose it had been a long day for them.

“You guys want a Cognac?”

Justin looked at me. “Isn’t this an eggnog moment?”

I grimaced. “Sorry, don’t allow that nasty shit it in the house. I have Bailey’s though.”

“Cognac,” Trey muttered, and Justin agreed.

Retrieving the bottle and glasses from the kitchen I returned to find Garrett rifling through a box. “Babe, it’s late. We can decorate tomorrow.” I poured as Garrett huffed a breath. Here we go. He wouldn’t be able to sleep if he didn’t finish whatever task he had his mind on right now.

“I just want to do the lights. They’re burgundy and gold and they twinkle really slowly and they were so pretty in the store and I just want to see them on our tree.” He paused to take a breath. “It won’t take me too long, and I want to make sure they match, because it will ruin everything if they don’t, and then I’ll have to exchange them, and probably some of the new ornaments too, because they won’t match the new lights...” He paused to breathe.

“Okay, slow down,” I chuckled, handing Justin and Trey their glasses. “I’ll help, and Justin and Trey can moderate from the couch.” I slugged down a finger of Cognac, sure I would need more than a finger before we were done.

“I can do it, you don’t need to help.”

Kneeling down next to him, I brushed my knuckles over his flushed cheeks and nodded softly. “I know you can, but it will go faster if we work together.”

He leaned over to kiss my cheek, and I turned, catching his lips.

“God, that’s...just...cute.” Justin snickered.

I gave him the finger.

Garrett nuzzled against my neck. “Thank you...for everything,” he whispered, and I knew he meant for more than just today. Once I had seen his studio apartment, met his degenerate neighbors that bullied him unmercifully, and learned he had been robbed several times in the past year, I forced him to move in against his wishes. It had been a tough adjustment for both of us, and we still struggled now and then, but I’d do it all again to make sure he was safe. Hell, I’d do it again just to make sure he stayed mine.

“Do you love me, even just a little?” he asked as if he had been reading my mind.

“If you make me cinnamon rolls in the morning, you’ll see a very loving man.”

“I’m not a baker anymore,” he stated flatly.

“What?! You don’t work at the bakery anymore?” Justin asked.

“Go away...” Trey muttered, turning into Justin’s stomach.
